Backbone's Wednesday May 17th Volunteer Drop-in & Kite Building Workshop 10am - 8pm

unnamed-12.jpgLend your time and talents for positive change!

Every Wednesday, we welcome you to drop-in to our Vashon headquarters to help with a variety of volunteer opportunities.

This week (the 17th) we're expanding our drop-in hours for a special Kite Building workshop in the morning from 10 - 1pm. The Immigration / Refugee Workgroup on Vashon will be prepping kites with messages of hope and solidarity for the families caught up in our country's hurtful immigration system.

Kathy Goodwind, the Kite Queen will help facilitate the Kite Building portion of the day. Kathy is a professional Kite designer and builder for over thirty years. She organized the first Fort Worden Kitemakers Conference early in the 80's. It still is Running. The Conference brings in teachers from all over the world to teach their techniques. Kathy opened her business in 1976. Then it was called Suspended Elevations. Later changed to Gasworks Park Kite Shop when I moved to that area. Kathy's taught kite making all over the world.

The Immigration / Refugee Workgroup is asking folks who want to make their own kite bring $20 for the purchase of a “Kite Kit.” You'll be able to construct your own kite as well as ways to make other big and beautiful kites.

No Skills Necessary - Just your willingness to help out!
