Position: Administrator

The administrator must oversee the EPA, represent it in the administration and to congress, and ensure its smooth running. This also requires environmental law enforcement and a host of related fields. The Administrator is also responsible for leading environmental disaster recovery efforts. He or she also serves as a member of the president's Cabinet.

Nominee's Background:

Thomas Eisner is Schurman Professor of Chemical Ecology at Cornell University and director of the Cornell Institute for Research in Chemical Ecology. A leading biologist who received the National Medal of Science in 1994, he is a pioneer in the field of chemical ecology. Dr. Eisner has been active in many national and international efforts to protect biodiversity. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society. He recently served as chair of the Endangered Species Coalition and was formerly a member of the National Audubon Society's board and the Nature Conservancy's scientific council.
