Nominee's Background: Thomas Eisner is Schurman Professor of Chemical Ecology at Cornell University and director of the Cornell Institute for Research in Chemical Ecology. A leading biologist who received the National Medal of Science in 1994, he is a pioneer in the field of chemical ecology. Dr. Eisner has been active in many national and international efforts to protect biodiversity. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society. He recently served as chair of the Endangered Species Coalition and was formerly a member of the National Audubon Society's board and the Nature Conservancy's scientific council.
