Position: Administrator

The administrator must oversee the EPA, represent it in the administration and to congress, and ensure its smooth running. This also requires environmental law enforcement and a host of related fields. The Administrator is also responsible for leading environmental disaster recovery efforts. He or she also serves as a member of the president's Cabinet.

Nominee's Background:

Mary O'Brien (Ph.D, Botany) is an environmental scientist and activist. She is the author of Making Better Environmental Decisions: An Alternative to Risk Assessment (MIT Press 2000). Current projects include writing a book on people who are intimately familiar with particular native plants or animals in the canyon lands of Northeastern Oregon and Western Idaho; and actively serving on the boards of the Oregon Toxics Alliance and Wildlands CPR.
