Richard Clarke Rate this Nominee   Current Rating: click to rate

Nominee's Background:

Anti-Terrorism Czar for multiple administrations (Republican and Democratic). Has said he wouldn't accept a position in a Kerry cabinet - but he also strikes me as a patriot - and would serve if called.

Nominating Speech:

Progressive Criteria:
The Department of Homeland Security will

Administer homeland security with the understanding that abandoning civil liberties or the Bill of Rights will not make us safe;

Support directing resources to areas where the need is greatest. Homeland security funds are not for pork projects;

Remember that international exchange, visits from foreign scholars and students promote international understanding and a safer world;

Put more resources into public health, a vital part of our security infrastructure.

Comments so far:
June 28, 2005 Eileen Siedman - No one is better qualified to head this department than Richard Clarke, given his many years of experience and his willingness to tell the truth about the inner workings of the federal government, which betrayed the people's trust regarding the emergence of terrorism.

February 23, 2005 Gar - Do we even need a Homeland Security position? Other than wasting billions of dollars and blinking warning lights at the request of the White House, what have they actually done for the nation so far? Wouldn't it be better to abolish this agency and raise the Border Patrol to Cabinet status. The border is where we really need protection. We already have the FBI to police the interior of the US, the CIA for operations out of the country -supposedly, the NSA for who knows what, the Secret Service to protect the president and go after counterfiters, not to mention US Marshalls and now the National Intelligence Agency; doesn't this stike anyone as just a bit of overkill? No pun intended.

November 2, 2004 Souad Joseph - I've watched mr. Clarke's testimonials! That's a man that knows and understands terrorism and the terroists. And, he can imagine the imagineable when it comes to terrorism!
