Position: Chair - Federal Communications Commission

The Chair serves as the chief executive officer of the Commission and delegates management and administrative responsibility to the Managing Director. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions.

Jim Hightower was born and raised in Denison, Texas. He currently broadcasts radio shows that are carried by various commercial and public stations. Hightower also writes a column for The Nation and publishes a monthly political newsletter, The Hightower Lowdown, which has received both the Alternative Press Award and the Independent Press Association Award for best national newsletter. He uses these outlets to provide a political and economic voice for those who have none.
