Position: Attorney General - Justice

As head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the federal government, the attorney general represents the United States in legal matters and advises the president and executive department heads of the Government. The attorney general appears to represent the government before the U.S. Supreme Court in cases of exceptional importance.

Nominee's Background:

Medal of Honor Winner in World War II. He was first Japanese-American to serve in either house of Comgress. He was on the Senate Watergate Committee (1973-74) which brought down Richard Nixon. He was on the committee which investigated the Iran-Contra Affair.

Nominating Speech:
Dan Inouye is a man of courage and honor. Even though Japanese-Americans were discriminated against in World War II, he joined the US Army and was lost an arm in combat. He was on the Senate Watergate Committee which investigated and brought down Richard Nixon.

Progressive Criteria:
The Justice Department will: Work to make sure that law enforcement protects the rights and common interests of all citizens, fairly and equally;

Remember that the first law of the land is the Constitution and the Bill of Rights;

Prosecute corporations vigorously and energetically when they harm the interests of ordinary citizens;

Enforce antitrust laws and work to have them strengthened;

Reexamine the legal status and role of corporations in our society, emphasizing that "personhood" is reserved for humans, not corporations

Protect civil rights and affirmative action;

Protect government and corporate whistle-blowers;

Remember that the USA is a signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and run the FBI and Bureau of Prisons accordingly.
