Youth Leaders have organized this rally and march, and will be joined by other like minded groups and citizens, including Backbone's salmon and Tahlequah orca, as we rally together for change and then march to the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building.
There, we'll deliver petitions and cards demanding action to save our salmon.
Why we are rallying:
Salmon numbers are at a record low and are at the quasi-extinction threshold. As a keystone species, our salmon is relied on by over 137 other species and are critical to the balance of the ecosystem of the entire Columbia River Basin.
Governor Inslee and Senator Murray will have opened comments at this time on their Lower Snake River Dams Benefit Replacement Study. Now is the time to be heard loud and clear and let them know we must act quickly and free the lower Snake River to uphold Tribal Treaty Rights and save our PNW Salmon and Southern Resident Orca from extinction. Research has shown repeatedly that breaching the four lower Snake River dams is the only effective way to recover salmon populations.
By July 31, they promise to deliver their recommendations - let’s be sure that they recommend breaching the four lower Snake River dams!
On Saturday, June 4th, we'll gather together in love and support at the Central Lutheran Church on 1710 11th Ave. in Seattle. There we will listen to bands with inspiring songs and hear our Youth Leader’s motivating words of encouragement. We will be able to sign petitions and cards and gather our energy before our procession to the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building.
Join us with your family and friends and let your elected officials hear your voice calling out for a free-flowing lower Snake River.
TIME: Doors Open at 10am | Rally 11:00am | March 12:00pm
Bill and a small crew from Vashon are headed down to Southern California for a kayak action, supporting environmental justice allies. We need to create a giant floating banner (with letters 9 feet tall!) for the EJ activists to deploy on the water.
Can you pitch in with your time and help trace, cut out and attach letters?
Saturday, May 28th
Time: 10-6 - stop by for any amount of time that works for you. (Even 1 hour is helpful and much appreciated!)
Location: Outside, in the parking lot of the Sheffield Bldg Warehouse. We'll be on the grass as much as possible. (Address will be shared with you when you RSVP Below.)
As everything heats up, literally and figuratively, we are called on to amplify our activism even more - both to demand justice and to usher in the world we need. In June we're supporting the Poor People's Campaign March on Washington, a labor rally for Juneteenth, the Portland Rally for Salmon Flotilla, an Environmental Justice action on the water in Southern California, and much more.
We cannot do this without you.
Let's meet up on Tuesday and get organized! We'll discuss how we can work together, how folks can pitch in and get involved, and ways we can be in solidarity with so many of the important fights. We want to hear what's happening in your community too, so bring your stories!

Education is a Human Right.
Higher Education ought to be free. Let's inspire the imagination of the possible by getting these images in the national media next week.
Backbone Campaign is sending its giant inflatable debt ball to DC for a demonstration for Student Loan Justice, April 17.
Pitch in to support this image getting there and in front of national news media!
Organizers are calling for the passage of HR. 2366, and the return of Constitutional bankruptcy rights to ALL STUDENT LOANS. We also are calling for ZERO INTEREST on ALL STUDENT LOANS!
If you cannot physically attend, please make a donation here to support these events. With your help, we'll get Backbone's giant, inflatable student loan "ball and chain" erected at the White House.
