In solidarity with Campaign Nonviolence's Days of Action, where folks across the globe partook in over 5,000 nonviolent actions, Backbone creative action squads took to overpasses and the streets to hold banners calling for a free flowing Snake River and the breaching of the Lower 4 Snake River Dams.
Backbone welcomes students in Walla Walla who created their first banner and held it at a busy intersection. Henry, the action coordinator there, said, "We didn’t see nearly as many cars in Walla Walla as we do on I-5 in Seattle of course but we chose a relatively busy arterial street and got over 30 waves and thumbs up and only one thumbs down!"
The crew who has bannered over 75 times on I5 noticed that the more they showed up to stand on the overpass, the more folks recognized them and responded positively. We can impact folks' hearts and minds by bannering for just 1 hour!
There will be upcoming banner actions on Oct 19 (Orca Recovery Day) and November 20, the anniversary of listing of Snake River sockeye on Endangered Species list - it's been 33 years, and we need to let our policymakers know we want actions, not empty words.
To participate in the upcoming banner actions, please fill out this short form.
Thank you, Jeff and Rod in Olympia and Henry in Walla Walla for the pictures!
