- Team Backbone
-------------
One of the things we love and do best is supporting kayaktivists and canoes families on the water, in their work to protect wild salmon and wild rivers, orca, and the waters they travel. There's little that is as exhilarating and inherently beautiful as on-water action to protect the places, people and creatures we love.
Unfortunately, Backbone’s 2003 50HP outboard just took its final ride.
Over the last nine years - from the Snake River to Grays Harbor, from Squamish, BC Canada to LA/Long Beach - this engine has propelled kayaktivism onto the world press. It has dodged and weaved law enforcement on the Willamette River to get safety gear to paddlers and pretended to be those ornery enforcers to train paddlers to remain calm and safe regardless of what confronts them. It has provided a launch pad for drones, a platform for spotlights and access to the aquatic frontline for television crews. Backbone's action boat has helped photographers get thousands of awesome on-water action shots, delivered and deployed dozens (if not hundreds) of giant banners. Most importantly, Backbone's Action boat has been there to keep countless paddlers safe, has transported elders, and towed tired allies.
Backbone Campaign invites people for whom this boat has made a difference - for a cause you care about, an event you organized, or paddle you participated in - to contribute so we can purchase a replacement engine.
Backbone shows up in a spirit of generosity whenever we can. This boat and motor are an expression of the generosity others have shown. Please pitch in with a tax deductible contribution so that Backbone get a new outboard motor for our Action Boat and we can keep showing up to support on-water actions, as well as canoe family support.
