The Future of Trucking - a Conversation with Steve Viscelli

RESCHEDULED DATE: Wednesday, March 25th

TIME: Noon (PACIFIC)/3PM (EASTERN)

RSVP below to join the Zoom conversation.

Steve Viscelli, author and professor at the University of Pennsylvania, is an economic and political sociologist who studies inequality, organizations, work, and labor markets.

Steve's latest project, which examined the effects of deregulation on class relations and the labor process in the trucking industry, culminated in a recently released book, The Big Rig: Trucking and the Decline of the American Dream (2016, University of California Press).

His current research is on the “gig economy,” specifically the ride-sharing businesses of Uber and Lyft. In addition to his academic research, Steve is involved in policy-relevant research in the areas of employment relations and energy efficiency.

Steve will discuss the urgency of determining what public interests need to be served in the emergent freight transport system - and the danger of leaving that up to corporations and elected officials unfamiliar with freight logistics or policymakers unconcerned with EJ, rural, climate or other community/public impacts.

RSVP below and instructions for connecting to this dynamic conversation will be sent to you via email.
