We know the future is uncertain. We know you are angry and scared and frustrated. And we know now is the time to double down on actions to defend this country against tyranny and dictatorship.
Thanks to the support, encouragement, and cheerleading of so many of you the Backbone Campaign is leaning into our 21 years of experience to arm everyday folks with the tools they need to make a stand. Liberty, as you know, is a muscle that must be exercised.
Our sights are set on taking this show on the road to Washington DC where we will deploy our “We the People” banner during the May Day protests. But before we ask you to invest in this important adventure in activism let us tell what we have been up to. And we’ve been up to a lot.
From overpass bannering to light projections to deploying our “We the People” banner we are leading the way with creative activism tools that speak to the moment and amplify our collective voices.
From the moment Trump’s Executive Orders began to flow we jumped into action and on January 23 we deployed our first Freeway Banner Overpass Team with the message “Immigrants Make America Great.” And we haven’t looked back.
The response to our message was overwhelming and our weekly banner teams have expanded to include 5 locations with 45 deployments over 13 consecutive weeks. Our banners encourage others to rise up, speak out, and defend our democracy. These actions have gone viral and our messages have been seen across the nation.
Ceasing on the opportunity to grow the movement we held our first Virtual Banner Building Workshop on January 29th.To date we have trained more than 200 people from Washington to Florida and everywhere in between. Ready to assemble banner toolkits have been shipped to 31 cities in 10 states. People are hungry for the tools they need to make their voices heard and with your support we are here to make that happen.
But we didn’t stop there. On April 5th we deployed our giant freeway and “We the People” banners at the Seattle Center as millions of people around the country joined the 50501 Hands Off protests. And just last week, working with folks from SEIU, Backbone Campaign deployed light projections focused on workers' rights, immigration, and illegal detention in Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis and Boston.
Although the momentum is growing this is no time to rest on our laurels. The very foundation of our democracy, the constitution itself is under assault. That is why there is no better time to remind those in power that We the People have built a foundation that may crack but will never break.
Can you help get us to DC? Your support will help with transportation, supplies and food for our scrappy team of 4.
