Fish War Film Screening

When the state of Washington started arresting Indigenous tribal fishers, it was a declaration of war. Scores of legal battles culminated in a landmark Supreme Court case that was meant to put an end to the violent Fish Wars. Fifty years later, the fight for salmon continues.

2024 was the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision; chronicling this fight is a new documentary, Fish War, which will show at the Vashon Theatre, Tuesday, Sept 9th at 6pm.

Following the film screening, Ed Johnstone, former chair of NW Indian Fisheries Commission and co-producer of the film, will speak and answer questions. Patrick Christie, Professor, School of Marine and Environmental Affairs and Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, will facilitate the post-film discussion.

Admission is by donation, with proceeds going to the indigenous filmmakers' projects.
