Portland Racism is the Elephant in the Room

Portland_beyond_denial_elephant_in_the_room__chair_is_open.jpgIn 2015, Police in the United States have killed more than 820 human beings (at the time of this writing). As an illustrative example, US police killed more people in the first 24 days of 2015 than UK/Wales has in the last 24 years. The lights of our brothers, sisters, daughters, sons and dearest friends are being snuffed out before our eyes, and yet there is little to no accountability for the systems that incarcerate, destroy, and demoralize on an incomprehensible scale.

This is not a system of justice!

As activists, allies, and individuals with a modicum of conscience, we will reflect on how to combat the myriad of racist institutions within our country and throughout the world.

At a time when desperate refugees receive closed borders, future conflict brews in a warming Arctic, and billions suffer from the greed and consumption of nations like ours, we must stand up! We must fight back! We must build true alliances and recognize the vile inequalities and violence that continue on our watch. No more!

"In the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." - Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join us for a memorial of those lost to our devastating systems of oppression and meditate upon the lives lost to violence. The demonstration will also provide opportunities for candid and meaningful conversations about how we can work to defeat the powers that threaten to strangle any last semblance of our decency.
