Backbone Campaign, in partnership with Vashon SURJ-Showing Up for Racial Justice, Sustainable Vashon and the VISD Racial Equity Team, welcomes formerly incarcerated men and women to Vashon Island to give an inspiring and educational presentation on the process of Re-Entry. This is a follow up event to the recent screening of "13th" and ongoing community exploration of the role racism plays in prison incarceration.
Hear their first hand accounts of incarceration and the persistent barriers people face after serving time for a felony conviction to find housing, meaningful work, mental health services, while encountering persistent profiling by police.
Learn action steps to address systemic and personal issues of incarceration.
Admission by donation: $10-$20/person suggested, no one turned away for lack of funds.
