Vashon Human Orca Mural

ALERT: Please notice and spread the word about the location change to Lisabeula Park/Beach.

In August 2009 Islanders created the first human orca mural on the shores of Maury Island, celebrating our win of stopping an industrial gravel mine from overtaking our Island.

When We Fight We Win

Now, nine years later we are being called again to step up our creative activism for the orca, to honor Tahlequah's message to urgently restore habitat in the Puget Sound for the Southern Resident orcas.

Tahlequah, Vashon Island hears your call.

The tide on August 25th at 11:00 am is perfect to create a human orca mural on the beach at Lisabeula Park.  In partnership with the Vashon Park District, we'll meet at the beach at Lisabeula and form ourselves into the shape of an orca.

Will you sign up to be part of this creative action?  You will need to:

  • wear black clothing
  • if you have one, please bring a black umbrella to help fill out the space
  • plan to arrive ON THE BEACH no later than 10:30am
  • carpool if you can; parking is extremely limited

We expect the photo to happen at 11:00am.

If you're able to help organize this event, contact [email protected].  We need assistance with media outreach, carpools, logistics. We need YOU!
