RSVP for #DivestTheGlobe Solidarity Action on Vashon on Monday (the 23rd) at 11:30pm

This Monday October 23rd, ninety-two of the world's largest banks will meet in São Paolo, Brazil to discuss policies on the climate and Indigenous People's rights to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).The Indigenous-led coalition of Mazaska (money) Talks and Standing Rock leaders have called on allies everywhere to join them for 3 days of mass global action.

You and other Vashonites with a conscience will join this global call for action on Monday to show the banks that financing climate disaster and the abuse of Indigenous Peoples is not an acceptable business practice.

--> We'll circle up at 11:30am in the Village Green (where the farmers market is) before processing to Chase Bank.  <--

This is a family friendly action with low to no risk of arrest. The Vashon Green School (formerly the Homestead School) will be joining us. 

We will deliver a demand letter to the bank and protest with uplifting songs, chants and beautiful imagery including a 10' Earth globe and 35' Inflatable Pipeline. 

 

PS: Help Laura finish creating the imagery for the action on Sunday from 4:30 - 8pm in the upstairs classroom of the Sheffield Building, Backbone's HQ. She needs 4-5 folks to help her. all/Text Laura at 206-409-5815 so she can let you in and knows to expect you (the doors are locked on the weekend).


PPS: Call/text Estavan 206-571-8869 to plug into specific roles for the day of action or help with some of the preparations. We need help with outreach, crafting some talking points and songs/chants, and creating an info sheet for Chase customers who want to help. We need to assign a few roles prior to the day of such as a few spokespersons, a police liaison, a couple folks open to interfacing with customers and members of the public, song / chant leaders and more.
