Thanks to all who have helped keep up the pressure in the streets by marching, projecting, bannering, donating to mutual aid funds, organizing in solidarity with the demands and messaging of Black Lives Matter and Movement for Black Lives.
We took to the streets throughout June, now what? We hear "Black Lives Matter" from elected officials and large corporations, but we haven’t seen much meaningful, systemic change, if any, despite feeling so close.
How do we continue the momentum and increase the pressure for real change? And now with #45's assault on cities with Department of Homeland Security goon squads, we must fight back. Because although we see our movement growing, and more people engaged than ever before, we're also seeing the usual forces moving to attempt to undermine, intimidate, and co-opt us.
We will also touch on the coming storms - 23 million evictions looming, ⅓ of people didn’t pay housing payment in July, and unemployment supplemental payments ending at the end of the month amidst the worsening spread of the pandemic. And we must stand up to the situation in Portland OR where federal troops are assaulting and even kidnapping protestors, using tactics that recall those of dictators like Pinochet.
These brewing storms make for a mandate for widespread protests that even dwarf those we saw in June. Our Conversation Tuesday will help us get ready - because if you stay ready you don’t have to get ready!
