We the People 250 - Join Backbone in Washington, DC on July 4, 2026
July 4th in DC
Amidst this moment of national crisis, unprecedented corruption, and concentration of unchecked executive power by the Trump Administration Backbone invites you to be part of an epic “take the streets” action this July 4th in Washington, DC when we deploy all 700 feet of our We the People banner.
Over the last 19 years, Backbone's giant We the People banner has served as an icon of people power and our aspirations to fulfill our shared mission of creating "a more perfect Union." Today, more than ever, it is a national symbol of resistance AND resilience.
After nearly two decades of touring the country, the We the People banner was 210 feet long last June. Thanks to an amazing team of Backbone volunteers on Vashon Island, WA, our We the People has grown over 500 feet in the last year. Not only have we added two more Preamble sections, additional signature extensions are being created each week.
Those extensions have been all over the country, including a 2 month tour of Ohio, multiple No Kings, May Day and MLK Day marches. Now the banner has tens of thousands of signatures, on over 700 feet of canvas - and will debut in its full glory when we take to the streets of DC.
Since the Trump Administration has refused to issue permits, a brave collection of people from across the country will engage in an un-permitted march, exercising the rights guaranteed to them in the First Amendment. This expression of patriotism, resolve, and liberty will call forth all Americans to embrace the common cause of championing the unifying mission expressed in this Preamble to our Constitution.
Here are a couple ways you can be part of this historic action:

July 4th and Beyond!
Though the July 4th action will culminate a year of effort, Backbone considers it not an end point, but a launch. Our colorful Procession for the Future platform banners from 2008 are pictured below. After July 4 deployment of the giant We the People, Backbone will create an updated set expanding our demands and our vision. Over the next couple years, it will become more important than ever for the current mobilization to define itself not merely by what it opposes, but also by the vision it proposes. We look forward to continuing this journey arm and arm with you. Consider whether your community might host We the People or a Procession for the Future or both. We are here and ready for you.
Thank you for your steadfast support of this work and these actions. Backbone is a small organization, committed to making an outsized impact on restoring people power - and we cannot do it without you. Please consider pitching in to help us grow, sustain, and serve. Pitch In TODAY!
Forward Together!
Bill Moyer & Team Backbone
